The golf court is enormous. You’ll need a lot of stamina to move from one end to the other. Moreover, the players go fatigued, walking across the 6-7 miles long course. That’s the main reason they adopt the golf cart for in-course transportation. But you’ll see, the professionals don’t ride the wagon sometimes. Some of the regulatory bodies think that players should have that fitness to walk the entire course.
But others, few in number, opine the opposite. The question arises, why don’t professional golfers ride in carts during big tournaments? A lot of agreements and disagreements have been found out. Now, our lookout in this article is to find why the prohibition. Let’s examine the causes.
Why Don't Professional Golfers Use Golf Carts?
Ensuring the Ground Quality
The grass of the golf court is very green and smooth. The run and flow of the ball depend heavily on the smoothness of the lawn. Any disruption will end up damaging its quality.
The big tournaments require the best gameplay. For that, the whole court is maintained with the utmost care and at enormous cost. The grass remains aloof from any external objects. For that, carts are not used in the big tournaments as it might damage the court field with its wheel particularly and other things.
Fair enough, big tournaments are the events where several players take part. And so a considerable number of carts may find their ways across the course. Beyond doubt, they can damage the well-maintained smoothness we see, and the game needs badly.
Gaining a Proper Warm-up before the Match
Any game you play, you require the perfect warmup of your body. It keeps your body warm and indulges you more in the game.
The player does the same too. A slight walking in the court gives them a little bit of warmup. Their body becomes quite reliable for further works and performance.
They can also develop their game strategy through a short walk. More or less, it takes the players more towards the game with their casual steps and movements.
The PGA doesn’t allow to use the golf carts during the game as per their rules of 2001. The old or players with definite reasons can use the cart. Only one person at a time will be allowed to sit in the cart. If the golfer rides the cart, the caddie has to walk. Again, if the caddie sits in the cart, the golfer has to walk. Both of them can’t use the cart at the same time.
We know that rules made for ensuring fair gameplay. And that is why we sometimes see occasional relaxation of the rules. And in this case, too, the golf cart rules for big tournaments have gone rule relaxation several times.
However, the authorities are dedicated to ensuring fair play, and they stand to put the regulations applicable to every individual.
Many tournaments prefer to use the cart for many reasons. The distance covering the holes and destination might make them use it.
Again, the adverse condition like rain might also force them to use the cart for the players. The players under these circumstances prefer to use it.
No matter what, walking has always been an integral part of the game. It gives you a mental relief before any game. As for the golf also, the players prefer to walk instead of using the cart mostly.
